Verge x SCAD
At Verge Yacht Design, our mission has always been to push the boundaries of luxury yacht interiors through bold innovation and sustainable practices. As a boutique firm based in Savannah, Georgia, we’re proud to be deeply connected to a community that values both creativity and progress. That’s why our ongoing collaboration with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is more than just a partnership. It’s a natural alignment of vision, talent, and purpose.
The collaboration was born from a shared commitment to forward-thinking design. Verge founder Anita Rivera Turcotte, an advocate for sustainability and hands-on learning, saw a unique opportunity to engage with the next generation of designers through SCAD’s renowned industry partnership initiative, SCADpro. SCADpro is a dynamic program that connects students with real-world projects across industries, from fashion and film to architecture and marine design. For Verge, this was a chance to tap into the minds of young, inventive designers who are not only mastering their craft but also unafraid to reimagine what’s possible.
The goals of this collaboration are twofold. First, to cultivate new ideas that elevate the standards of sustainable yacht design. Second, to provide meaningful professional experiences for students in one of the most exciting sectors of design. At Verge, we believe that true innovation happens at the intersection of education and industry. SCAD students bring fresh perspectives and a fearless approach to conceptual work, while our team offers mentorship and insights into the realities of high-end marine environments.
From the outset, the partnership was designed to be collaborative, not competitive. SCAD students are invited to explore real client briefs and constraints while being encouraged to present bold, out-of-the-box ideas. In turn, Verge benefits from a steady flow of imaginative solutions and early exposure to emerging design trends. Whether it’s experimenting with carbon-neutral decking, rethinking interior layouts for space efficiency, or exploring the use of recycled materials, the collaborative work is setting a new standard for sustainable marine interiors.
Another core goal of the partnership is to contribute to the evolution of design education. By working alongside professionals at Verge, students gain experience in sustainability-focused product sourcing, client communications, and concept refinement. These are skills that aren’t always taught in the classroom but are essential for career success. It’s a true win-win. Students graduate with real-world portfolio pieces and industry know-how, while Verge stays on the leading edge of innovation.
Looking ahead, Verge and SCAD plan to continue growing this collaboration, exploring new materials, technologies, and storytelling techniques that align with the changing values of today’s yacht owners. As luxury buyers become increasingly eco-conscious, we believe the future of yacht design lies in a seamless blend of beauty, function, and environmental responsibility.
Thanks to this partnership with SCAD, that future is already taking shape right here in Savannah.
